Grateful & Cozy: November on the Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail
The harvest is in, the last of the leaves have come down, and the crowds have gone home for the year. What's left is the season we quietly love best — warm, candlelit tasting rooms, a bold glass of red that finally feels right, and the first stirrings of the holidays. It's an unhurried month, and that's the whole point. Here's how to spend it.
The Season Turns Cozy
With the patios closed, the pours warm up. In the heart of Naples, Inspire Moore leans into the season with spiced, mulled wines and its signature Love Riesling — a relaxed Thursday-through-Monday kind of place as the weather turns. Up on S. Main Street in Canandaigua, Acquilano trades its summer patio for the candlelit cellar, where a bold red and an easy hour are the entire agenda. This is the trail at its most low-key and welcoming.
A Lakeside Festival to Start the Month
The month's liveliest afternoon lands early. On Saturday, November 7, the Tap & Craft Festival pulls into Hotel Canandaigua (3–7 PM) — fifty-plus pours of craft beer, cider, and spirits, live music, and a room full of New York makers, all with the lake out the window. It's a ticketed event, so grab yours ahead; then bundle up and make an afternoon of it on the water.
Wines for the Thanksgiving Table
The best bottle at Thanksgiving is the one with a story behind it. Make the drive before the holiday and let the trail's winemakers point you to the right pour for your table — a bright white for the turkey, a bold red for the stuffing, and something sparkling from Song Hill up in Victor for the toast. A few unhurried tastings now will have your holiday table sorted long before the guests arrive.
Shop Small, Shop the Trail
By late month the holidays are in full swing, and the trail is a far better place to shop than any parking lot. On Small Business Saturday, November 28, Heron Hill's Canandaigua Lake tasting room hosts its Holiday Market 11 AM–3 PM. Enjoy wine specials, local arts and crafts, and live music at the water's edge. The day before, Hometown Wine Company opens the carriage-house doors in Naples with a Black Friday special worth the drive. And all month, Arbor Hill Grapery & Winery has the gifting handled — gift baskets, wine jellies, and the famous grape pies — while nearly every winery offers gift cards and wine-club memberships that make easy, thoughtful presents.
Plan Ahead
November hours shift. Many wineries move to holiday or weekend-only schedules, and a few of the smaller rooms are open by appointment, Randall-Standish / Barrel Necessities keeps Saturdays 12–4 through November 21st, for instance. Check before you go, then give yourself the whole afternoon. The season is short, the roads are quiet, and the welcome is warm.
Grateful, cozy, and open for the season. Come spend it on the lake.
